Hitachi’s Efforts in the Nuclear Sector
Recognizing the seriousness of the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, Hitachi has been cooperating with all aspects of the work on plant decommissioning and the recovery and reconstruction of the affected area while also seeking to rebuild confidence in nuclear power.
Meanwhile, with the effects of climate change now making themselves felt around the world in forms such as record-breaking heatwaves and heavy rainfall events, progress is being made on bringing renewable energy into more widespread use as a means of decarbonizing society. However, acknowledging the vulnerability of renewable energy to variable weather conditions, people are coming to realize once more how important it is that renewables play a complementary role with nuclear power, a reliable energy source that does not emit any CO2 in the generation process.
Taking these circumstances into account, this series of articles describes work on ensuring the security of electricity supply and on achieving carbon neutrality.

Products for the Circular Economy
Environmental problems have worsened over recent years, including resource shortages, tightness in energy supply and demand, environmental damage caused by increased waste disposal, and global warming. This has led to calls for a transition away from the linear economy of high-volume production, consumption, and disposal and toward a circular model to help realize a sustainable society. This series of articles focuses on products for such a circular economy, describing new initiatives from the Hitachi Group and where it plans to take these in the future.
Digital Services Powered by Connected Products
As the spread of the IoT brings digital connectivity to a diverse range of products, the data collected from these products is being leveraged to offer more sophisticated service-based business models that deliver new value. With a focus on digital services powered by connected products, this series of articles describes new initiatives and future directions for Hitachi’s extensive portfolio of technologies, products, and solutions.
Green Solutions for Building a Hydrogen and Ammonia Supply Chain
Hydrogen and ammonia have received increasing attention in recent years as effective energy sources for combating global warming due to their ability to efficiently produce energy without emitting CO2. As a result, there is a growing demand to establish a scheme to reduce CO2 emissions throughout the supply chain, from the production to the use of hydrogen and ammonia. This series focuses on Hitachi's green solutions aimed at constructing a hydrogen and ammonia supply chain, and introduces its efforts and future directions for preserving the global environment.

Digitally Enhanced Healthcare Solutions
Against a background of rapid advances in biotechnology along with the longer healthy life spans and rising healthcare costs associated with aging populations, recent years have seen rising demand for advanced diagnostic techniques, control of healthcare costs, and greater use of personalized medicine. This series of articles focuses on advanced healthcare solutions powered by Hitachi’s digital technologies, describing the work being done to realize a “wellbeing society” and the plans Hitachi has for this field in the future.

Transition to Carbon Neutrality in the EV Value Chain
Recently, public awareness of climate change and environmental issues has increased dramatically, and wide initiatives have been implemented to achieve carbon neutrality. In this situation, the role of EVs is becoming more important. There are several considerations and high hopes for EVs, not only EVs as equipment for transportation, but also infrastructure deployment for EVs, emergency power sources with EV batteries, and the recycling asset of used EV batteries. This series focuses on the "transition to carbon neutrality in the EV value chain," exploring new activities and future approaches involving Hitachi's wide range of technologies, products, and solutions.
